Australia Day Weekend

I hope everyone had such an amazing Australia Day, and an even better long weekend.

I always enjoy spending a little extra time with my family so this weekend was the icing on the cake for the end of the school holidays.

My Dad and Step Mum came to visit last week for my Grandpa's 97th Birthday (amazing, I know!) and we caught up with them on Saturday for lunch. We went to Mooney Mooney club where the food was really great and the company was even better. It was pretty classy and to be completely honest that surprised me. It was so nice to see my parents, and they gave Aaron and I our Christmas present!

When we got home, our awesome friends were waiting for us! I prepped some food for our BBQ and we all went and celebrated Australia Day Eve down on Canton Beach. We took one look at the rides and how expensive they were and muttered about how absolutely un-Australian the prices were.
BUT the free petting zoo was definitely a highlight.

The kids drove around in miniature jeeps, went on pony rides, and went on an epic jumping castle.

After our money was pretty much drained, we walked back home and put the BBQ on. We chatted and ate. At 9pm it was time for the fireworks. Daniel and Jesse went on a ride after the fireworks that ended up making poor Jesse feel sick. He looked like a drunk staggering and leaning on Aaron. Once we got home the kids went to bed and the adults played some serious board games and indulged in too many drinks.

We were invited to Aaron's best mans place for Australia Day festivities on Sunday. It was a really great day. The kids went for a swim in the pool, we played cricket (which is of course compulsory on Australia Day if you are in fact Australian) and had a BBQ. While the adults got to chatting and playing darts after lunch, the kids played table tennis and playing footy.

We did have to drive the kids home on Sunday afternoon which sucked, but with all the time that Aaron and I haven't been spending together, it was nice to know that we had Monday to spend together alone. We really didn't do much. We talked, I got some bloggy stuff prepped while Aaron did his fantasy league, and then we caught up on some of the shows we watch together (namely Revolution and Grimm). We had a truly relaxing day.
Overall it was a pretty perfect weekend.

How did you spend your Australia Day?

  1. What an awesome way to celebrate Aussie Day! It sucks seeing the money disappear but then you see how happy the kids are and it makes it totally worth it.

    1. Totally. I try to think of as many activities that we can do without too much spending, but this was a complete one off. We spent a lot of money last week, being the last week of school holidays and all but it was still worth it to make memories with my family :)

  2. Sounds like a lovely day! I didn't do much at all. With Boatman away a BBQ was out of the question, and I ended up being stuck at home as well. Oh well. There's always next year. :)

    1. I don't know how you're doing it Jess. I couldn't be away from Aaron for weeks at a time. I hope you have a babysitter planned for the day after he gets home!
It really was an awesome long weekend. Thanks for visiting :)
